These sweet scented ‘violet’ flowers bloom in spring and are especially suited to shady areas, particularly under trees. Viola odorata ia a spreading perennial which will create a carpet of mauve blooms, and is great for a naturalised display in lawns, alongside crocuses. Its foliage is heart-shaped and evergreen. Supplied as large plug plants. Height: 15cm (6″). Spread: 50cm (20″)

Plant plugs in pots to or grow them on for transplanting containers and borders later on. Grow on in a cool frost free position. When fully rooted into their pots, gradually acclimatise violet plants to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days prior to planting them in their final positions. Grow Viola plants in sun or semi shade in well drained, rich, fertile soil.

Feed and water container grown plants regularly. Deadhead faded violet flowers to encourage more blooms to be produced and prevent them from self seeding.
