Penstemon ‘Husker Red’ is a unique hardy perennial that produces elegant blush-white flowers, held above ruby-red foliage. These reliable and bushy plants form tidy semi-evergreen clusters, with lingering summer displays of trumpet-like blossoms. Penstemon ‘Husker Red’ fights through both rain and drought, as well as being exceptionally slug resistant. Penstemon are tough, classic cottage garden plants which will flower throughout the summer months and into autumn. Height and Spread: 50cm (20″).

Penstemon plants dislike cold, wet soils in winter. Plant them in a well drained site, adding compost or well rotted manure to amend heavy clay soils. Choose a position in full sun or semi shade.

Feed and water Penstemon plants regularly until they are fully established. Cut back faded Penstemon flowers to encourage more blooms to be produced. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure around the crown of each plant in autumn or spring. Avoid pruning back old foliage until spring arrives, as this will help to protect the plant during winter.
